Brad, a middle-aged Certified Public Accountant, has lost everything-career, business, family, finances, and home in a bankruptcy. He considers himself a loser and has struggled with autism spectrum disorders all his life. Needing a job, he reluctantly returns to his despised hometown, Williston, North Dakota -home of the Bakken oil bonanza. He quickly gets a job in an accounting office, settles into a new life, and attempts to unlock his mother's mysteries. Uncle Syd evades personal contact and remains mysterious. Brad encounters Desmond, the head of a group of unscrupulous local businessmen. Their new allies-a Las Vegas drug mafia-are initially interested in flipping real estate. The alliance breaks up. A shooting war with the Feds ensues. Brad is reluctantly sucked into it.
